Chiara Parisi Returns to Rome as Curator at Villa Medici

institutional · 2026-05-05

Chiara Parisi, after five years as director of La Monnaie in Paris, returns to Rome as curator at the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici. She previously worked there from 2000 to 2003 on the exhibition cycle La Folie de la Villa Médicis. Starting February 2017, she will curate a new series of contemporary art shows, beginning with a focus on significant international female artists, including Annette Messager (2016 Praemium Imperiale winner), Elizabeth Peyton, Camille Claudel, and Tatiana Trouvé. Parisi will also curate the annual collective exhibition of Academy fellows, which will later travel to Paris in September alongside works from residents of Casa de Velázquez in Madrid and Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto, as part of the ¡Viva Villa! festival curated by Cécile Debray and Federico Nicolao. The programming includes the return of Giovedì della Villa, a key Roman cultural event involving fellows and guest personalities, and Art Club-Villa Medici, curated by Pier Paolo Pancotto, featuring five new paths from Cy Twombly to Pier Paolo Calzolari. The announcement was made on December 14 by Villa Medici director Muriel Mayette-Holtz.
