Chiara Parisi Resigns as Cultural Director of Monnaie de Paris
Chiara Parisi has resigned as cultural director of the Monnaie de Paris, the historic French mint, after five years. Parisi, an Italian art historian with a PhD from Sapienza University, was appointed in 2011 to lead the institution's cultural programming, which began with the MétaLmorphose project in 2007-2008 aimed at engaging the public around metal and coin production. During her tenure, she organized major contemporary art exhibitions, including John Baldessari's 'Your name in lights', Paul McCarthy's 'Chocolate Factory', Marcel Broodthaers' 'Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles', Jannis Kounellis, a collaborative show by Boltanski and Obrist titled 'Take me, I am yours', and the ongoing Maurizio Cattelan exhibition 'Not Afraid of Love'. Her successor is Camille Morineau, a graduate of the École Normale Supérieure and the Institut National du Patrimoine, who has curated exhibitions of Niki de Saint Phalle at the Grand Palais (2014-15), Roy Lichtenstein (2013), Gerhard Richter (2012), and Yves Klein (2006) at the Centre Pompidou. Morineau, founder of the nonprofit Archives of Women Artists, Research and Exhibitions (AWARE) and author of 'Artistes femmes: de 1905 à nos jours', has announced a shift in focus toward French artists and female artists to attract a broader audience, reversing Parisi's cosmopolitan approach.
