Chiara Gatti appointed director of MAN Nuoro after contested selection

Chiara Gatti has been named the new director of the Museo d'Arte della Provincia di Nuoro (MAN), succeeding Luigi Fassi, who left to lead Artissima. Gatti, born in 1973 in Luino, Varese, is an art historian, critic, and curator. She holds a degree from Università Cattolica di Milano, a master's in cultural management from Bocconi, and a diploma in museography from Politecnico di Torino. She writes for La Repubblica and Arte, and contributed to Treccani's art encyclopedia. She previously co-curated two MAN exhibitions: Giacometti (2015) and Women of Futurism (2019). The selection process was contested: on December 14, three candidates—Concettina Ghisu, Efisio Carbone, and Davide Mariani—filed a recusal letter alleging a conflict of interest between Gatti and two commission members, Lorenzo Giusti (former MAN director, now at GAMeC Bergamo) and Gabriella Belli, due to past collaborations. The Province of Nuoro rejected the accusations, leading the commission to resign. A new commission of Angela Tecce (President of MADRE Naples) and Anna Mattirolo (co-director of Scuderie del Quirinale) was appointed. Carbone and Mariani skipped the February 1 interview. Gatti's appointment was confirmed late that evening.
