Chianti Wine Estates Launch Art of the Treasure Hunt

Seven of the most famous Chianti wine estates have launched "Art of the Treasure Hunt," a contemporary art project running in Tuscany until October 30, 2016. The initiative celebrates the 300th anniversary of the 1716 edict by Cosimo III de' Medici that officially defined the Chianti region. Organized by art patron Luziah Hennessy of the LVMH galaxy, controlled by Bernard Arnault, the project is curated by Kasia Redzisz, Senior Curator at Tate Liverpool, and dedicated to the late Zaha Hadid. Participating estates include Castello di Ama, Castello di Volpaia, Fèlsina, Castello di Brolio, Colle Bereto, Gagliole, and Borgo San Felice. Artists involved range from Heinz Mack at Castello di Brolio, Anselm Kiefer at Castello di Ama, Edson Chagas and Philippe Chancel at Castello di Volpaia, Isaac Julien and Alexandra Sukhareva at Colle Bereto, Pedro Cabrita Reis, Bob Wilson and Mark Handforth at Fèlsina, Giulia Piscitelli at Gagliole, to Zaha Hadid and Ibrahim Mahama at Borgo San Felice. Galleries include Thaddaeus Ropac, Nara Roesler, Sprovieri, Franco Noero, A Palazzo, and Fonti. Many of these wineries already have contemporary art programs, such as Castello di Ama's collection featuring Daniel Buren, Anish Kapoor, and Louise Bourgeois, and Castello di Volpaia's pioneering art-wine experiments by Luciano Pistoi.
