Chengdu Launches Art Chengdu International Contemporary Art Fair with Selective Galleries

festival-fair · 2026-05-05

The Art Chengdu International Contemporary Art Fair has been announced by Chengdu, set to debut within a lively cultural setting. As a prominent financial center in central China, Chengdu is home to numerous artists and the gallery Thousand Plateaus. Shi Zheng, the artistic director, revealed that the fair will showcase thirty galleries—twenty from China and ten international—to maintain high standards and draw elite collectors, rivaling Beijing. This event contributes to the expanding Chinese art landscape, following the establishment of Art Basel's Hong Kong branch in 2012 and various biennials. The 2017 Shenzhen Biennale, curated by Meng Yan, will commence on December 15, highlighting China's economic growth, while Shanghai's Biennale has been ongoing since 1996, alongside West Bund Art & Design (November 10–12, 2014).
