Chen Tianqiao's MiroMind suspends China services amid compliance concerns

MiroMind, the AI start-up founded by tech billionaire Chen Tianqiao, has announced it will halt its MiroThinker services in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau starting May 12 due to "business adjustments," with no set date for resumption. The company is offering refunds and data export options to affected users. The suspension follows a saga involving Meta and Manus, and comes amid heightened scrutiny of cross-border technology transfers. A customer service representative confirmed the move on Thursday. According to an interview, Beijing contacted Chen's team in early March, cautioning against unilateral technology transfer out of the country, leading to the implementation of a protocol limiting cross-border sharing of information or code. Some staff have been relocated to Singapore to divide operations for compliance. The email was sent to select users on Wednesday, as reported by a Beijing-based user.
