market-auction · 2026-04-26

Sotheby's Italia returns with its design auction, on view at Palazzo Serbelloni from April 18 to 21, 2024, during Salone del Mobile week, and closing online on April 23. The sale features works from the 1950s to contemporary pieces by Gio Ponti, Alessandro Mendini, Isamu Noguchi, and others. Michelin-starred chef Davide Oldani selected four favorite lots: a chair by Mendini, two vases by Gaetano Pesce, and a neon installation by Alê Jordão. Oldani, who opened his restaurant D'O in Cornaredo in 2003 and earned three Michelin stars by 2020, draws parallels between design and cuisine, emphasizing simplicity, functionality, and elegance. He designed his own tableware and restaurant interiors. The auction responds to growing demand for Italian and international design objects.
