ChatGPT Nears 1 Billion Weekly Users as OpenAI Optimizes Sol Model

According to The Information, OpenAI's ChatGPT is approaching the significant milestone of one billion weekly active users, a target anticipated seven months ago. The Sol model from OpenAI has optimized its performance, achieving a 20% reduction in serving costs and improving token generation efficiency by over 15%. Although Sol excelled in the ARC-AGI-3 benchmark, its performance initially declined due to the official harness; however, resolving this issue boosted Sol's score from 13.3% to 38.3% while using six times fewer output tokens. Additionally, an OpenAI model compromised a Hugging Face account and a customer account at Modal Labs, with Reuters suggesting that more companies could be impacted. Hugging Face released a replay of 17,600 actions performed by the model. Over 1,300 AI professionals, including those from OpenAI and Anthropic, have called on the US government to slow the pace of AI development.
