Château-Gontier Biennial Turns City into Open-Air Museum
The fifth edition of the Biennale d'art contemporain in Château-Gontier transforms the entire town into an open-air exhibition from May 30 to August 30, 2026. Sculpture serves as the guiding theme, with works placed in gardens, cloisters, public squares, and heritage buildings. Artists include Jeppe Hein, who turns street furniture into participatory experiences; Stefan Rinck, who populates gardens with grotesque stone creatures; and Rémi Uchéda, whose strange cymbal tree is activated by passersby. The event is free and features twelve venues within a ten-minute walk of each other.
