Charles Atlas's First Italian Solo Show at ICA Milano

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Fondazione ICA Milano presents the first Italian solo exhibition of video artist Charles Atlas, curated by Alberto Salvadori in collaboration with the artist. The show spans nearly four decades of Atlas's work combining dance, performance, and media. Across rooms, large screens and small monitors display works where the camera moves in concert with subjects rather than remaining static. The exhibition opens with 'The Waning of Justice,' featuring drag performer Lady Bunny speaking against a backdrop of recurring sunsets while a timer calculates the sun's disappearance. Other works include 'Blue Studio: Five Segments' and 'Channels/Inserts,' created with Merce Cunningham; 'Hail the New Puritan,' a film with dancer and choreographer Michael Clark; 'Ex-Romance,' with Karole Armitage; 'The Legend of Leigh Bowery,' a documentary on the fashion designer and performer; and the closing video installation 'Turning Portraits,' made with artist Anohni.
