Charlap Hyman & Herrero designs Nonfiction fragrance store on Manhattan's Lower East Side
Charlap Hyman & Herrero, a design firm based in the US, has finalized a retail location for the fragrance label Nonfiction on Orchard Street in Manhattan's Lower East Side. Founder Haeyoung Cha worked alongside the studio to establish a 'place of pause' that draws inspiration from the area’s heritage and the brand’s roots in Seoul's Hannam-dong district. Notable elements include lustrous oxblood-tiled flooring, lime-washed walls, and sleek metal shelving. A bespoke mahogany table crafted by Doug McCollough showcases perfume bottles, paired with a Queen Anne candle stand from around 1770, sourced from Jacqueline Sullivan Gallery. Additionally, artist Pilar Almon created a niche featuring a hand-painted black rose design. The studio has also recently completed an office for MW.S and a hotel in the Hudson Valley.
