Charbel Samuel Aoun's Sympoietic Fabrics at Sursock Museum

Charbel Samuel Aoun, an artist based in Beirut, is showcasing his inaugural institutional solo exhibition titled Sympoietic Fabrics at the Sursock Museum, which will be open until 25 August 2024. Curated by Marie-Nour Héchaimé, the exhibition is located in the Twin Galleries and features a variety of works, including sculptures, paintings, a motorized installation, and video experiments conducted over the last four years, utilizing materials such as earth, stones, wood, and wax. Aoun, who has an architectural background, creates installations that engage sensory perception through sound and texture, often incorporating technology to modify natural processes. Notable pieces include Archaeology of Touch (2022) and A Breath into a Hole (2020), alongside the main installation, Stoneology (2024), which animates rocks. In the left gallery, Micropolis (2024) showcases sculptures made from wax and stones, crafted by Aoun’s bees, emphasizing the interplay between nature and artistic collaboration.
