Chapuisat Brothers' 'Stratum' Challenges Mall Space at Le Parvis
The Chapuisat brothers (Cyril and Grégory) presented 'Stratum' at Le Parvis in Ibos from April 9 to July 1, 2010. The installation is a precarious wooden structure that disrupts the flow of the shopping center housing the art center. It features a raised platform with non-functional stairs and ventilation pipes, creating a labyrinthine interior with padded chambers that induce sensory deprivation. The work contrasts with the hyperstimulation of the commercial environment, referencing Jean Baudrillard's concept of the 'hyperspace of merchandise.' The piece also evokes the archetypal hut and Aquitaine's palombières (hunting hides). The exhibition was curated by Magali Gentet, with additional shows by Botto & Bruno and Hippolyte Hentgen running until October 16, 2010.
