Chantal Akerman to Present Reading at The Kitchen Ahead of Video Exhibition

On April 11, 2013, at 7 PM, Chantal Akerman, the celebrated Belgian filmmaker known for her avant-garde style, will present a free reading of her autobiographical piece, My Mother Laughs, at The Kitchen in New York. This event is leading up to her solo exhibition, Chantal Akerman: Maniac Shadows, which opens the next day, April 12, and runs until May 11, 2013, under the curation of Tim Griffin and Lumi Tan. The reading explores her mother’s aging and touches on themes of memory and family, which are central to Akerman's work.
