Change! Call for Art: L'Aquila Scaffolding Art Project Returns
The second edition of the Off Site Art / ArtBridge call for L'Aquila, titled Change!, is now open. This long-term public art project transforms scaffolding in the historic center of the Abruzzo capital—Europe's largest construction site over seven years after the earthquake—into an open-air gallery. Organized by Off Site Art in partnership with ArtBridge (curator Veronica Santi adapted the New York format for a disaster-stricken context) and supported by the GSSI – Gran Sasso Science Institute, the call targets emerging artists residing in Italy and New York. The jury includes Ian Alteveer (curator of modern and contemporary art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art), Valerio Bindi (architect and illustrator, organizer of the Crack! Fumetti Dirompenti festival), and Malin Fezehai (photographer, World Press Photo and Wallis Annenberg Prize winner). They will select a variable number of artists (22 were chosen in 2014). Selected works will be printed on PVC billboards covering the scaffolding until the building's restoration is complete. Submissions require up to five images, a biography, and a 140-character message, due by July 5.
