Chanel Next Prize Dinner in Venice Honors Ten Artists with €100,000 Grants
On Wednesday evening, Chanel celebrated the 2026 laureates at its Next Prize dinner held at Palazzo Giustinian Brandolini during the Venice Biennale's opening days. Ten emerging artists were awarded €100,000 each. Yana Peel, Chanel's president of arts, culture, and heritage, hosted the event and delivered a toast that highlighted the Biennale's unprecedented 99 pavilions and the international attendance, while also addressing existing geopolitical issues. The prize was designed by Marcantonio Brandolini, who showcased his colorful glass creations alongside family heirlooms. The evening featured a cappella performance of 'Because The Night' by Patti Smith and an improvisational jazz set by Grammy-nominated trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire with Sullivan Fortner. Additionally, a new Chanel Culture Fund Fellowship was announced in collaboration with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. Notable attendees included curators Massimiliano Gioni and Hans Ulrich Obrist, Diane von Fürstenberg, Margherita Missoni, Peter Marino, and artists Cao Fei, Michael Armitage, David Salle, along with gallerists Sadie Coles and Philomene Magers.
