Chanel J12 watch marks 25 years with Watches & Wonders showcase
Chanel celebrated the 25th anniversary of its J12 watch at Watches & Wonders in Geneva, presenting new iterations including 28mm ceramic models and the Superleggera. Designed by Jacques Helleu in 2000, the J12 challenged the male-dominated sports watch market by offering a technically advanced, sporty yet feminine timepiece. It sold well to women dissatisfied with traditional dress watches. Over 25 years, Chanel has built its own manufacture, acquired a stake in movement maker Kenissi (partnered with Tudor), and collaborates with high-end suppliers like Romain Gauthier. Despite 70% new components in a 2019 redesign by Arnaud Chastaingt, the J12's appearance changed minimally—only the crown, bezel, and dial typography were tweaked. The most acclaimed new models at Watches & Wonders were the Midnight Blue 33mm and 38mm versions.
