Chafa Ghaddar's 'Beneath Latent Skies' at Tabari Artspace

Tabari Artspace in Dubai presents 'Beneath Latent Skies', a solo exhibition by Lebanese contemporary artist Chafa Ghaddar, running from 2023. The show features works across media including fresco, installation, works on paper, wood, and fabric. Ghaddar explores the body as a landscape, addressing themes of eroticism, violence, movement, temporality, love, despair, and repair. Her practice investigates the tension between durability and impermanence, departing from classical fresco traditions. Notable works include 'Collapsing Hues' (2022) and 'Traces of Wetness' (2022), which were part of her 2022 Lyon Biennale presentation 'Manifesto of Fragility'. New pieces incorporate materials like Indian cotton paper layered with coffee, tea, and mural stucco, carved with knife strokes. The palette features fleshy tones, black moss, and fresco blue. Ghaddar also exhibits historic works: 'Exhausted Forms' (2022) from the Lyon Biennale and 'Corps' (2018), a flesh-hued fresco on wood. The artist's statement emphasizes the dual state of becoming and diminishing in fresco, and the agency of materials.
