Cesena's Archaeological Museum to Reopen in 2026 After Major Renovation
The Archaeological Museum of Cesena, closed since 2018, will undergo a €2.89 million renovation funded entirely by the municipal administration. The project, designed by architect Paolo Bolzani, will relocate the entrance to Piazza Bufalini and introduce a modern, inclusive layout with multimedia installations, digital panels, and sensory experiences for visitors with disabilities. The museum will feature 11 sections spanning from the Neolithic to the Renaissance, with highlights including the 4th-century silver plates discovered on Colle Garampo in 1948, the mosaic of via Strinati depicting a panther (found in 2017), and the floor mosaics of via Tiberti (5th–6th century AD). The renovation will also eliminate architectural barriers and connect the museum via elevator to the Malatestiana Library, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2005. Construction is set to begin in mid-2024 and conclude in 2026. The museum is part of a broader cultural revitalization of Cesena, which also includes a new home for the Pinacoteca in Palazzo OIR, with a tender expected in the coming months.
