Cesare Pietroiusti's Artworks That Ideas Can Buy at Arte Fiera 2019
At Arte Fiera 2019 in Bologna, artist Cesare Pietroiusti launched 'Artworks that ideas can buy' within the performance program Oplà – Performing activities curated by Silvia Fanti. Pietroiusti invited international artists to exchange their works for ideas from the public, not money. Each artist decided whether an idea matched the work's value; thirteen accepted. Participants included Giancarlo Norese, Michele Di Stefano, Francesco De Grandi, Serena Vestrucci, Valentina Furian, and Massimo Bartolini. Norese offered a work containing a stolen image printed on a page from his brother's old book; he received eight proposals and traded with an artist whose idea he immediately forgot. Pietroiusti reflected that art belongs to those who love and understand it. The project aimed to bypass economic transactions and open space for unexpected emotions.
