Cesare Pietroiusti releases LP 'Newton' with sounds of falling objects

publication · 2026-04-26

Italian artist Cesare Pietroiusti (Rome, 1955) has released a vinyl LP titled 'Newton' for XONGcollection, a series of artist records produced by Xing. The album captures the sounds of everyday objects falling—coins, clothing, utensils, keys, bottle caps—recorded over two months with a portable microphone attached to his belt. Side A contains the noises of drops and tumbles, while Side B features detailed spoken accounts of each event, framing these micro-traumas as reminders of our subjection to gravity. The white vinyl edition is limited to 150 numbered copies, plus 30 collector's editions shipped directly by the artist as mail art, each in unique packaging. XONGcollection, launched in 2021, explores transmedial artists working with sound; previous releases include 'Once More' by Kinkaleri with Jacopo Benassi and 'Martellate. Scritti fighi 1990-2020' by Marcello Maloberti read by Lydia Mancinelli.
