Certification Framework Proposed for AI-Generated Research

A recent study published on arXiv introduces a dual-layer certification model for assessing AI-assisted research, distinguishing between the quality of knowledge and the evaluation of human contributions. Submissions are classified into three categories: Category A (accessible via pipeline), Category B (needing human guidance at specific points), and Category C (not reachable by pipeline). This framework seeks to transparently manage pipeline-generated outputs without the need for new institutions. Employing normative-conceptual analysis, the research designs the framework within four constraints and validates it through dry runs on two representative examples. Currently, the publication system does not possess a systematic method to evaluate outputs from automated pipelines, as it presumes universal human authorship.
