Ceramics and Architecture: Alfonso Femia's New Book Explores Material Intelligence

Marsilio Arte has published 'L'intelligenza della ceramica. Alfonso Femia Architectures', a volume examining the innovative use of ceramics in contemporary architecture. Edited with contributions from Jean-Philippe Hugron, Matteo Vercelloni, Maurice Culot, and artist Danilo Trogu, the book features an introduction by Aldo Colonnetti. It traces the historical significance of ceramics from the Ishtar Gate (c. 575 BCE, Babylon) to Art Nouveau masters like Antoni Gaudí and Hector Guimard, and mid-20th-century Italian architects such as Gio Ponti and Paolo Portoghesi. Femia's projects highlighted include the Docks in Marseille, Urbangreen in Romainville, Life in Brescia, Living in the Blue in Milan, Cappella De Ferrari in Ferrada De Moconesi, and OGR Officine Grandi Riparazioni in Turin. The book costs €35 and is 240 pages long.
