Centro Pecci Opens in Prato with 'La Fine del Mondo' Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The Centro per l'Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci in Prato, Italy's only public contemporary art institution to inaugurate a new building in the 2010-2020 decade, has previewed its expansion to the press. Designed by architect Maurice Nio, the 7,815-square-meter extension connects to Italo Gamberini's original volume. The opening exhibition, 'La fine del mondo,' curated by director Fabio Cavallucci, features over 50 international artists across more than 3,000 square meters. The show begins with Thomas Hirschhorn's 'Break Through,' which breaks through the ceiling with debris. Mayor Matteo Biffoni stated the center can change the city's destiny, while assessor Monica Banti emphasized its role as a museum and laboratory for youth. Cavallucci praised Nio's cost-effective design compared to starchitect buildings.
