Centre Pompidou to Open Shanghai Branch in West Bund Cultural District

In 2019, a branch of the Centre Pompidou will be inaugurated in the West Bund cultural district of Shanghai, located within the West Bund Art Museum. This initiative is part of a long-term cooperation agreement established between France and China in a memorandum of understanding signed in 2024. The French institution will earn an annual fee of €1.5 million. Spanning 25,000 square meters, the museum will be situated in the Waterfront Public Open Space, designed by David Chipperfield. The West Bund district, covering 9.4 square kilometers, will feature multiple museums and over twenty contemporary art exhibitions, while Paris will host initiatives to showcase Chinese art. Additionally, the West Bund Media Port, a commercial center, is expected to be completed by 2020, with an overall district investment of $3 billion.
