Centre Pompidou to Open Massive Art Factory in Massy in 2025

institutional · 2026-05-04

The Centre Pompidou has announced a new 22,000-square-meter cultural hub in Massy, a suburb 45 minutes from Paris, set to open in 2025. The project, dubbed the "Fabbrica dell'Arte" (Art Factory), is part of an expansion strategy that includes existing outposts in Brussels and Metz, and a forthcoming space in Shanghai. The new center will serve dual functions: as a conservation and restoration hub for the museum's collection, and as a community-focused cultural venue offering exhibitions, workshops, screenings, and performances. It will collaborate with local schools, universities, and associations. The initiative is guided by seven principles, including "art as a place to live," "art closer," and "art in the plural." The center will initially house 5,000 works from the Musée National Picasso-Paris, with plans to expand. The Université Paris-Saclay will contribute academic expertise and student involvement. The agreement was signed with the Ministry of Culture, the Île-de-France region, the Essonne department, the Paris-Saclay community, and the city of Massy.
