Centre Pompidou to Open Fourth International Branch in Jersey City by 2024
The Centre Pompidou has announced its fourth international branch, set to open in Jersey City, New Jersey, in 2024. The project was revealed on June 4 by Jersey City Mayor Steven M. Fulop and Centre Pompidou President Serge Lasvignes. The new institution, named Centre Pompidou × Jersey City, will be located in the historic Pathside Building at Journal Square, which will be renovated by OMA Architecture and its New York associate Jason Long. The museum will feature works from the Pompidou's collection, the largest collection of modern and contemporary art in Europe, and will collaborate with local artists and communities. The initiative aims to revitalize Journal Square into a regional cultural hub, following the Pompidou's successful model of international partnerships in Metz, Malaga, Brussels, and Shanghai. This marks the Pompidou's first partnership in North America.
