Centre Pompidou to launch first South American satellite museum in Iguaçu Falls, Brazil

institutional · 2026-04-20

The Centre Pompidou has signed a five-year franchise agreement to establish its inaugural South American outpost in Iguaçu Falls, Brazil. This new 10,000m² museum will be constructed by Paraguayan architect Solano Benitez within the UNESCO World Heritage site. Located on the Brazilian side of the massive waterfalls, which feature 275 individual cascades bordering Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay, the area already draws two million annual visitors. Organizers anticipate this number could double with the influx of cultural tourism. While the Paris headquarters undergoes refurbishment, the institution is leveraging such partnerships to generate estimated annual revenues of €25-30 million. Additional satellite locations are scheduled to open in Seoul in May 2026, Brussels in November 2026, and Jersey City in 2030. The Centre Pompidou currently operates museums in Malaga and Shanghai.
