Centre Pompidou's collection to travel to MAXXI Rome in 2027 during renovation

The Centre Pompidou in Paris will close for renovation from September 2025 until 2030, launching a program called "Costellation" to lend its collection worldwide. The MAXXI in Rome will host a 2027 exhibition curated by Philippe-Alain Michaud and Francesco Stocchi, focusing on the act of making art, including chance and error. The agreement was initiated under former MAXXI director Alessandro Giuli. Other international partners include the H'Art Museum in Amsterdam (with shows on Brancusi, Matisse, Surrealism, and Léger), Fundacion La Caixa in Spain, and Pompidou's own branches in Malaga and Shanghai. In France, the Louvre will host "Objets" until July 2027, and a new storage facility, Centre Pompidou Francilien – Fabrique de l'art, opens in Massy in summer 2026, housing 140,000 works from the Musée National d'Art Moderne and 10,000 from the Musée National Picasso. A Maurizio Cattelan-curated exhibition runs in Metz from May 8, 2025 to February 2, 2027. Other French venues include Lyon, Lille, Toulon, Monaco, and Montpellier.
