institutional · 2026-04-23

In a move to expand its international presence, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris is in discussions to establish its inaugural Latin American platform in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, facilitated by the government of Paraná state. A letter of intent was formalized at the Itaipu Binational Executive Center, attended by Governor Ratinho Júnior and Director-General Anatalício Risden Junior. Initial discussions commenced two years ago, comprising both virtual and one face-to-face meeting in Paris. The selected site, located 17 kilometers from the Iguaçu Falls, attracts around two million tourists each year, which could contribute over R$ 400 million to the local economy. Over the next ten months, further meetings will take place, culminating in an architecture competition in early 2023. Established in 1977, the Centre Pompidou boasts a collection of more than 120,000 works.
