Centre Pompidou and AWARE Partner for Gender Equity in Art
A multi-year collaboration has been established between AWARE (Archives of Women Artists Research & Exhibitions) and the Centre Pompidou in Paris, spanning from 2024 to 2026. This partnership aims to enhance the visibility of women artists in both public and private art institutions. As part of this initiative, the museum has introduced a groundbreaking guided tour that highlights female artists from its permanent collection. Visitors can use QR codes on labels to access a wealth of resources, including biographies and interviews, on the AWARE website. These codes will also be featured in the Centre Pompidou's Constellation program, which will showcase the collection at major cultural institutions during the museum's closure in summer 2025. Camille Morineau, AWARE's director, noted that this tour celebrates AWARE's tenth anniversary and the fifteenth anniversary of the "elles@centrepompidou" exhibition from 2009. Featured artists include Joan Mitchell, Sonia Delaunay, and Frida Kahlo, among others. Additionally, the partnership will enable cross-linking between the websites of AWARE and the Centre Pompidou to support research on 20th-century women artists.
