Centrale Montemartini Completes €473,066 Accessibility Overhaul

Rome's Centrale Montemartini, a museum housed in a former thermoelectric power station, has completed a €473,066 accessibility project funded by Italy's National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The 22-month initiative, led by the Capitoline Superintendency for Cultural Heritage, aimed to remove physical and sensory barriers throughout the museum, from the street and entrance plaza to galleries, elevators, restrooms, and visitor services. The goal was to create a more coherent and independent visitor experience rather than just adding individual accessibility features. Centrale Montemartini, part of the Capitoline Museums, is known for its unique blend of classical art and industrial archaeology. The project's completion marks a significant step in making the museum more inclusive, aligning with broader efforts in Italy to enhance accessibility in cultural heritage sites.
