Centennial wooden residence renovated in Kyoto's Kitayama district
In the Kitayama area of Kyoto, a wooden house that’s almost 100 years old has been beautifully renovated by td-Atelier and ENDO SHOJIRO DESIGN. Built in 1931, this 127 m² residence is part of an early urban planning project known as the Rakuhoku First District Land Readjustment Project in northern Kyoto. The current owners, a couple in their seventies, inherited it from their family, originally purchased by the husband’s grandfather. Finished in 2025, the renovation was led by architects Masaharu Tada and Endo Shojiro, with landscaping by Michikusa, co.Ltd. The home retains its historic appeal while integrating modern features from brands like HARMAN, Panasonic, and Toto, blending perfectly with the upscale neighborhood.
