Centenary of Achille Castiglioni and Giuliano Briganti Marked by Exhibitions
The year 2018 marks the centenary of the birth of Achille Castiglioni (1918–2002), a leading figure in Italian design. Triennale di Milano hosts a major monographic exhibition, 'A Castiglioni,' curated by Patricia Urquiola in collaboration with Federica Sala, running until January 20. The show spans design, architecture, and installations. Additionally, Fondazione Achille Castiglioni presents 'Dimensione Domestica, Atto III' from October 9 to April 30, 2019, a reconstruction of the 'Salle à Manger' dining room created for the 1984 'Mobili italiani a Tokyo' exhibition. The MAX MUSEUM in Chiasso also features 'Achille Castiglioni Designer Visionario.' Meanwhile, the centenary of art historian Giuliano Briganti (1918–1992) is celebrated at Santa Maria della Scala in Siena with the exhibition 'Dalla maniera alla veduta. Il percorso di una vita,' showcasing books, photographs, and engravings from his collection. The Polo del '900 in Turin marks the centenary of the end of World War I with a global project on war reportage, including the exhibition 'The Storm' by photojournalist Ugo Lucio Borga, opening October 15, featuring 20 images of civilian life in Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq. The 36th Torino Film Festival (November 23–December 1) pays homage to Rita Hayworth (1918–1987) with an image from 'You Were Never Lovelier' (1942), directed by William A. Seiter. Artistic director Emanuela Martini emphasizes Hayworth's role as a dancer and comedienne over her iconic 'Gilda' persona.
