Centenary exhibitions for Michele Rosa across four Italian cities

A series of exhibitions marking the 100th anniversary of Michele Rosa's birth (1925–2021) runs from July 3 to October 31, 2025, across five venues: Museo della Media Valle del Liri in Sora, Fondazione Umberto Mastroianni in Arpino, Rettorato Unicas in Cassino, Europa Experience – David Sassoli in Rome, and Pinacoteca Civica in Gaeta. Curated by Roberta Melasecca, the shows present Rosa's diverse oeuvre spanning painting, photography, and his role as an intellectual witness to postwar Italy. Rosa studied architecture in Rome and fine arts at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, worked in the Nuclear Physics Department under Gilberto Bernardini, and later directed the gallery La Saletta in Frosinone (1961) and founded the Arte Club Esposizione in Sora (1969). His work evolved from rural scenes of the 1950s to politically engaged pieces reflecting the beat generation and avant-garde theater, then turned introspective after a 1974 illness. The exhibitions include hundreds of works from his archives, highlighting his use of violent colors, fragmented forms, and mixed materials as a critique of capitalism and globalization.
