Centenary celebrations for Jean Arp at Fondazione Marguerite Arp in Locarno

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The Fondazione Marguerite Arp in Locarno-Solduno marks 2022 as a special year, celebrating the 100th anniversary of Jean Arp and Sophie Taeuber-Arp's marriage and the 120th birth anniversary of Marguerite Arp, the founder and collector. The foundation reopens its exhibition space with 'Jean Arp – Sono nato in una nuvola', focusing on the cloud motif in Arp's work and that of contemporaries like Alexander Calder, Marcel Jean, Frederick Kiesler, and Hans Richter. The show includes sculptures, reliefs, and prints titled 'Coupe de nuage', 'Tranches de nuage', or 'Palette de nuages'. A section explores the cloud as a metaphor for life, highlighting Arp's two wives. In the terraced garden, an ephemeral installation by Nicola Colombo and Monica Sciarini of Studio Nephos uses natural fog clouds as a recurring theme throughout the year. The exhibition runs until October 30, 2022, curated by Simona Martinoli.
