Célia Tupinambá to Represent Brazil at 60th Venice Biennale with Indigenous Pavilion Renaming
Célia Tupinambá, also referred to as Glicéria Tupinambá, is set to represent Brazil at the 60th Venice Biennale, which will commence on April 24, 2024. Her exhibition, titled 'Ka’a Pûera: nós somos pássaros que andam,' is curated by Arissana Pataxó, Denilson Baniwa, and Gustavo Caboco Wapichana. The Brazil Pavilion will be renamed Pavilhão Hãhãwpuá. This exhibition explores themes of marginalization and the infringement of territorial rights, resonating with the overarching theme 'Foreigners Everywhere.' Born in Bahia in 1982, Célia is pursuing a master's degree in Anthropology at UFRJ and has been instrumental in negotiating the 2024 repatriation of the Tupinambá Mantle from Denmark. On November 25, she will lead a procession with the mantle at the Instituto Moreira Salles during the 8th ZUM Festival, where there are a total of 11 Tupinambá mantles globally.
