Ceiling Service: Seoul's Rave Where the Only Rule Is Sleeping

In Seoul, a unique cultural initiative called Ceiling Service transforms the act of gazing at ceilings into an immersive experience. Participants recline on mattresses in unusual locations, concentrating on sound and relaxation. Launched by PERMIT SEOUL, this series has seen ten events since 2024, with the ninth taking place at Layer Studios alongside Simmons Korea, showcasing over thirty mattresses and garnering 1.33 million views on a video reel. The most recent event, volume 10, was held on June 27-28, 2026, at Layer 41, a repurposed steel factory, featuring tea ceremonies led by Dambi Kim and performances from Yogetsu Akasaka, K.O.P. 32, and others. This project reflects Seoul's public rest culture while focusing on sound and space, steering clear of spiritual themes. Similar movements are also emerging in Berlin, London, and Los Angeles.
