Cedric Le Corf's Cabinet of Curiosities at Loo & Lou Gallery

exhibition · 2026-04-24

Cedric Le Corf, born 1985, presents his first solo show in Paris, 'Péninsules', at Loo & Lou Gallery from September 16 to October 31, 2020. The exhibition functions as a contemporary cabinet of curiosities, featuring a triptych of paintings, sculptures, and engravings. Le Corf's work is influenced by his travels: in Berlin with Dürer, in Vexin at the Fondation Dufraine, and in Madrid as a member of the Casa de Velásquez, where he absorbed the Baroque tragedy of Ribera, the eloquence of Velázquez, and the dramatic pain of Jean de Joigny and Alonso Berruguete. His anatomical wood sculptures—skulls, torsos, arms—enclose porcelain bones reminiscent of Vesalius or Jacques Gautier d'Agoty. The show includes engravings like 'Le Vexin, hommage à Corot' (2018) and a dramatic centerpiece, 'Justa' (2019), a large overturned horse in painted and engraved wood. The artist cites influences from Baselitz and Lüpertz.
