Cecilia Gioria's Fragile Self-Portraits

Italian photographer Cecilia Gioria, born in Alessandria in 1991, develops a deeply autobiographical practice merging photography, writing, and visual arts. After studying at IED Milan, she made self-portraiture the core of her language, using it as a tool for personal investigation rather than representation. Her photographs present the body as a fragile territory where fears, memories, and emotional states render visible what normally remains hidden. Avoiding aesthetic complacency, her self-portraits inhabit an intimate space where identity and vulnerability coexist, producing delicate images that draw the viewer into a profoundly personal dimension of ongoing self-dialogue. Alongside photographs, she incorporates texts, collages, and interventions on personal objects to expand the narrative, transforming each project into a reflection on memory, perception, and self-awareness. Gioria states: 'Through a zoom I studied and narrated myself, trying to know myself.' Her work is featured on Objects magazine.
