Cecilia Alemani to curate 2021 Venice Biennale

Cecilia Alemani has been appointed as the artistic director for the 2021 Venice Biennale, making history as the first Italian woman to hold this position and the fifth female director in the event's 59-year timeline. She currently leads High Line Art in New York and has a strong background in curating, having worked on important exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and Tate Modern in London. Alemani also curated the Italian Pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennale and led the Art Basel Cities project in Buenos Aires in 2018. She takes over from previous directors María de Corral, Rosa Martinez, Bice Curiger, and Christine Macel, aiming to inspire artists to create works that reflect their views and societal challenges.
