Cécile Bart's Monumental Screen Paintings at Frac Bourgogne

exhibition · 2026-04-23

At Frac Bourgogne in Dijon, Cécile Bart presented an installation of around twenty 'Peintures / écrans' (screen paintings) from June 13 to October 24, 2009. The works, suspended at precise angles, create a rhythmic constellation that appears on the verge of collision. Each screen is made of 'Plein Jour' voile stretched over aluminum frames of varying sizes, hand-painted and wiped to achieve desired color density while remaining translucent. The installation balances color groups and frame equilibrium, forming a cohesive yet dynamic mise-en-scène. A review by Bernard Marcelis in art press n°360 (October 2009) highlights the work's monumental complexity and precision. Bart's practice consistently explores new territories, as seen in a prior exhibition at Faux Mouvement in Metz (summer 2008) featuring black-and-white projections. A monograph on her work, 'Plein Jour,' was published by Les Presses du Réel in 2008.
