Ceal Floyer's Sonic Void at Esther Schipper
Ceal Floyer's 2005 solo exhibition at Galerie Esther Schipper in Berlin, running from September 3 to October 28, presented a nearly empty gallery space dominated by a looping sound piece. The gallery, recently renovated by British architect Caruso St John, featured only two pairs of small white speakers playing a fragment of the song 'So I'll just keep on… 'til I get it right.' The work creates an immersive, physical experience akin to ambient music that never progresses. In a second room, a video shows bubbles from a glass of sparkling water filmed in extreme close-up and projected in negative, resembling sine-wave patterns and gently parodying technology-driven sound artists. The renovation also created a separate space, REC, dedicated to emerging artists.
