Cavò: Independent Art Space in Trieste's Historic Cavana District

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Since 2018, the cultural association Cizerouno has managed Cavò, a small independent exhibition space in the historic Cavana district of Trieste, near Piazza dell'Unità. Founded in 2001, Cizerouno is led by president Massimiliano Schiozzi, along with Vincenzo Luongo, Nicole Carrieri, and Giacomo Plos. Cavò was formerly the headquarters of Alpe Adria Cinema, which organizes the Trieste Film Festival, and Cizerouno has collaborated with them for years. The space hosts multidisciplinary projects addressing political and social themes, often in collaboration with external artists. Notable exhibitions include "Lune" by Barbara Stefani (2023–2024), a lunar diary of daily paintings reflecting emotions, and "Cerco…" by Adriana Torregrossa. Cavò also features permanent artist lights dedicated to James Joyce in the Cavana neighborhood and organizes night tours with Francesca Pitacco. The space has partnered with Caritas for cultural events raising awareness on socio-political issues. Future plans include hosting an artist from Campania and a project on tolerance using posters throughout the district. Cavò aims to find new partners to grow and continue collaborating with the University of Trieste, Caritas, and Accademia della follia.
