Catherine Zeta-Jones and Anthony Hopkins star in Dylan Thomas film adaptation
Catherine Zeta-Jones has joined Sir Anthony Hopkins in the film adaptation of Dylan Thomas's short story 'A Visit To Grandpa's,' directed by DJ Caruso. The story follows a young boy sent to spend a summer with his eccentric grandfather on a Welsh farm. Filming began in Wales this month, with hundreds gathering in Dolgellau, Gwynedd to watch. Hopkins recited a Thomas poem as a nod to the film. The script was written by Ken Aguado. Thomas, born in Swansea in 1914, is Wales' most celebrated writer, known for 'Under Milk Wood' and 'Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night.' He died in 1953 aged 39. The short story was first published in 1938 and later included in Thomas's collection 'Portrait of the Artist as a Young Dog' (1940). Bob Dylan took his stage name from Thomas, and former US president Jimmy Carter was a lifelong fan. Taylor Swift name-dropped Thomas in her 2024 album 'The Tortured Poets Department.'
