Catherine Opie's dual exhibitions at Lehmann Maupin feature Elizabeth Taylor home series

Catherine Opie is presenting two concurrent solo exhibitions at Lehmann Maupin's New York galleries. At 201 Chrystie Street on the Lower East Side, "Catherine Opie: 700 Nimes Road" showcases photographs taken between 2010 and 2011 documenting Elizabeth Taylor's residence at 700 Nimes Road near Beverly Hills. The series includes intimate vignettes of the actress's opulent home and possessions, such as the pigment print "Fang and Chanel." This exhibition runs through February 20. Simultaneously, "Catherine Opie: Portraits and Landscapes" is on view at the gallery's Chelsea location at 536 West 22nd Street, continuing through March 5. The 700 Nimes Road portfolio, represented by Regen Projects in Los Angeles and Lehmann Maupin in New York and Hong Kong, offers a revealing glimpse into Taylor's life, connecting her to figures like Richard Burton and Michael Jackson. The critic Noah Dillon found the Chrystie Street show unexpectedly compelling, noting its visual allure despite his limited knowledge of Taylor's film career, which was largely displaced by 1960s and 1970s cinema.
