Catherine Nichols to curate Manifesta 14 in Pristina with storytelling theme
Manifesta 14 has appointed Catherine Nichols as curator for its 2022 edition in Pristina, Kosovo. The Berlin-based Australian curator currently serves as co-artistic director of beuys 2021, a German program marking Joseph Beuys's centenary. Nichols revealed the biennial's theme as 'it matters what worlds world worlds: how to tell stories otherwise', which aims to develop new collective storytelling practices. According to a Manifesta press release, the concept seeks to foster alternative models of social-cultural, urban, and artistic engagement with local communities. Nichols expressed excitement about joining the team to bring together artists, thinkers, scientists, and citizens from across Europe and beyond. She noted that her visit to Pristina revealed storytelling's transformative power in creating public spaces. The biennial will run from 22 July to 30 October 2022.
