Catherine Nichols to Curate 2026 Lyon Biennale

Catherine Nichols has been selected as the curator for the 18th Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art, scheduled to take place from September to December 2026. An Australian scholar and curator residing in Berlin, Nichols is currently affiliated with Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart. She has previously curated Manifesta 14 in Pristina, Kosovo, as well as the European Nomadic Biennial in 2022. Isabelle Bertolotti, the Biennale's Artistic Director, commended Nichols for her collaborative style and her awareness of historical context and public involvement. Nichols stated that it is a privilege to curate this edition, highlighting the Biennale’s tradition of artistic and political inquiry. Founded in 1991, the Lyon Biennale is a significant international event, alongside the Dance Biennale.
