Catherine Christer Hennix's Three Monochromatisms at Hangar Bicocca

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Swedish-American artist Catherine Christer Hennix presented Three Monochromatisms (Composition For Computer) at Hangar Bicocca in Milan as part of the Public Program for Lucio Fontana's Ambienti exhibition. The work, curated by Pedro Rocha, unfolded over two days within three Ambienti, offering a new version of Fontana's Concetto Spaziale transmitted through static sound waves and developed with a recently created digital instrument. Using Just Intonation, the composition explores stasis and pure sounds, aligning with Fontana's monochromatic color reverberation and spatial concepts. Hennix, born in Stockholm in 1948, is associated with the minimalist movement and has presented projects at venues including Grimmuseum (Berlin), Issue Project Room (New York), The Long Now at Kraftwerk (Berlin), Sonic Acts Festival (Amsterdam), CTM and MaerzMuzik festivals (Berlin), and Cafe OTO (London). Her writings are collected in a two-volume publication, and her tape archive is held at Cornell University in the United States. A retrospective of her visual work was scheduled at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam in 2018.
