Caterina Riva appointed director of MACTE Termoli

Caterina Riva has been named the new artistic director of MACTE in Termoli, Italy. The selection was made by a jury including Paolo De Matteis Larivera (President of MACTE), Laura Cherubini (interim director and professor at Accademia di Brera), Vincenzo de Bellis (Curator and Associate Director, Visual Arts, Walker Art Center), and Andrea Viliani (Head of CRRI at Castello di Rivoli). Riva brings international experience from London, Singapore, and New Zealand, having previously coordinated the Advanced Course in Visual Arts at Fondazione Ratti in Como, co-founded FormContent in London, directed Artspace in Auckland, and worked with the Swiss Institute in Rome and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Singapore. MACTE, housed in a former market, was launched in April 2019 with exhibitions by Giuseppe Uncini, Gino Marotta, Mario Ceroli, and Nanda Vigo under the interim direction of Laura Cherubini and Arianna Rosica. The museum's collection originates from the prestigious Termoli Prize initiated by artist Achille Pace. Riva's three-year program will engage with the collection, producing contemporary art exhibitions and events that connect art history, social present, and explorations by artists and curators. She aims for an inclusive, migrant, connected, and reflective MACTE.
